As true to my promise, I am posting an update on our recent trip to the 2011 Corrosion Convention hosted by NACE. Having never attended a NACE Corrosion Convention, I knew I was in for a big experience. I spent a great deal of time prior to the trip studying who would be exhibiting and planning out which booths I wanted to visit. Luckily my colleagues were seasoned in attending these conventions and I quickly learned that playing it by ear can be just as productive as following a strict schedule. It allowed opportunities to meet new people that I may have missed otherwise. I guess the saying "if you don't know where you're going, you never know where you may end up” isn't always a bad thing.
Corrosion 2011 touted 350 booths with companies from around the world and an attendance of over 6,500. It really was the place to be for anyone in the corrosion industry! The amount of knowledge and resources in that one place was quite overwhelming, and it was inspiring to be a part of a worldwide group dedicated to solving corrosion problems.
One exhibitor who hosts a booth every year told me that the industry was like a "big family” and that in most cases everyone is willing to help each other out. Attending the Corrosion exhibit was like going to a family reunion to her!
We were able to share our knowledge of composite repair systems for corrosion protection while learning how other companies, like ours, are making significant headway in solving the world's corrosion problems.
Suffice it to say that Corrosion 2011 was a success!
